The Tree of Deforestation

The following project addresses deforestation in Colombia from 2015 until 2021. This data visualization is conceived as an immersive installation where the audience can see and hear the changes year after year.

OUTCOME

This project was conceived as an immersive installation, where the final outcome, an audiovisual projection is displayed from the ceiling.








VISUAL LANGUAGE

The visual language used in this project consists of 3 main sources, the first one, are the leaves falling from the sky:

The second one is the Canopy color:

The third one is the sound, wich also represents the % of deforestation in primary forests.





DATA COLLECTION

The data we used was taken from Global Forest Watch.



DATA PROCESSING

The main part of the data processing was created in the software TouchDesigner




DESIGN PROCESS

This project starts with the question, how can we understand and make a dimension of the deforestation problem in Colombia?
